Why the Laws

At some point in time man started believing that there is no rebuke in God’s love. We believe that we can admit and carry on, or that He knows all things and is a forgiving God so there’s no problem. After all, God would never punish anyone would He? Actually, God loves us so much that when we turn to His Son we cannot live in our old sin any more. Why? Well, if we keep walking on the path of sin we won’t be beside Salvation, will we? But does our walk matter? Why so many laws? Is it all that important? Let’s look.

In America there are millions of laws, while in the Word only a handful. Can we be perfect? Doesn’t matter. While I may speak on laws, they are not as important as the grace we need. He has given us these laws for many reasons, one of which is to clean us up, but it is not for salvation or for righteousness. “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.” (Romans 3:20) In law we realize that we need Salvation. We realize we are, indeed, in need of help.

Ok, I understand I need Salvation now so I can go on sinning. No! Let me tell you why I am writing this letter to you Christians. The only cause I have been given for unbelievers’ refusal to believe in Christ is how the Christians act. This is what I had always been told until the other day when a gentleman said what everyone else says…and then added a few things. He said, “It’s not hard to find a Christian that’s a jerk. Their Book says to love your neighbor, but mine treats me like crap because I’m of a different faith. Christians are supposed to honor the Sabbath, but they don’t. They don’t follow the laws in the Bible. If Christians are like that, then Christianity is not something I’d want to follow. If they had anything, it would show in their lives. Christians don’t have what they say they do. I hate it when a person tells me, ‘All you have to do is believe in Jesus, and you’re saved.’ Because if that was all that was needed, then the Bible would be one line on one page.” Christians! I am writing to you today of the laws, not because they will save you…but because other’s souls are at risk by your disobediences! Others know what Christians stand for and are judging us. I must ask this of you, would you follow the Messiah based solely on your life? What do others see? They see the Word…through us. We must be an accurate translation or they will fall because we fail. Heed His Words, Christians! “For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.” (Romans 14:7)

“In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.” (Titus 2:7-8)

“Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:19)

“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.” (Romans 3:28)

“Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.” (Titus 3:1-8)

“…you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?” (Romans 2:21-23)

We should only separate state and church if the state is not answerable to God. It is. We must work hard to remove sins from government. It was the government that forced women to kill their children in China, it was government who burned down churches in Russia, and it was government who kicked the Bible and prayer out of schools and allows other crimes here in America, divided nations of states, by removing God. What I speak of here is of extreme importance because God does not only judge individuals but also nations (Psalms 110:6). It takes courage to do what is right. Courage is what is needed to do what is right even in face of certain death. Prayer and action can prevail only if we stop thinking, “I’m only one” and start remembering that we are all part of the Body of Christ. Amen.

“And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” (2 Corinthians 12-15)
